A 26-year-old lawyer and alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Sara Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama in their opening FIFA World Cup match.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 17, while she was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private hostel at Bomso near the KNUST campus in Kumasi. She is said to have suddenly collapsed shortly after the final whistle as celebrations broke out.
Friends immediately rushed her to the KNUST Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes in an attempt to save her life. Despite the efforts of the medical team, she was later pronounced dead.
Sara Araba Tettey had recently been called to the Ghana Bar and was practising with O & A Legal Consult. She was widely regarded by colleagues and peers as a promising young legal professional.
Her sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from the legal fraternity, former classmates, friends and loved ones, many of whom have paid tribute to her on social media, describing her as intelligent, compassionate and dedicated.
Her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death before funeral arrangements are announced.
