College of Health Sciences Wins KNUST’s 75th Anniversary Inter-College Quiz

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) has emerged champions of the KNUST 75th Anniversary Inter-College Quiz Competition, defeating teams from the University's six colleges in a contest that celebrated knowledge, teamwork, and KNUST's rich academic heritage.

Organised as part of activities marking the University's 75th anniversary, the competition tested participants on KNUST's history, Ghana's heritage, and current affairs, while promoting intellectual excellence and healthy competition among students.

CHS secured 29 points to win the commemorative trophy, finishing ahead of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) with 20 points. The College of Science (CoS) placed third with 16 points, followed by the College of Engineering (CoE) with 15 points. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) scored 9 points, while the College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) finished with 3 points.

Opening the event, Professor David Asamoah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, described the quiz as more than a competition, saying it reflected the University's commitment to intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and academic excellence. He encouraged contestants to compete with confidence, integrity, and mutual respect, noting that success depends not only on knowledge but also on teamwork and discipline.

Speaking after the victory, Agyekum Richmond, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science Nursing student, attributed the team's success to months of intensive preparation. He explained that the team progressed through departmental, school, and faculty-level contests before earning the opportunity to represent the College of Health Sciences at the University level.

His teammate, Ekow Sam-Awortwi, a fifth-year Bachelor of Science Human Biology student, also credited the achievement to teamwork, dedication, and consistent preparation. He said the victory demonstrated what students from different academic backgrounds can accomplish when they work together toward a common goal.

The competition featured three rounds covering topics including KNUST's milestones, the life and vision of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's national heritage, science, technology, health, climate change, sports, and international affairs.

The victory adds another memorable highlight to KNUST's 75th anniversary celebrations and reinforces the College of Health Sciences' reputation for academic excellence.
