Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng Elected UGSRC President and Vice President

Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng have been elected President and Vice President respectively of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe, a Level 300 Nursing student, and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng, a Level 300 Geography and Archaeology student, secured 11,165 YES votes, representing 75.6% of the 14,770 votes cast, emerging as the only presidential ticket on the ballot after the Abednego Lomazah–Samuel Espan Bissah ticket was removed from the race.

The election followed weeks of political activity and uncertainty surrounding the UGSRC presidential race. The Electoral Commission had initially cleared two presidential tickets to contest, with Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng facing Abednego Lomazah and Samuel Espan Bissah.

However, Abednego Lomazah later announced the end of his campaign after additional academic results considered following the filing of his nomination showed that he did not meet the required academic standing under the standards of the Medical School.

In his statement, Lomazah said that at the time of filing his nomination, the results available on his ITS indicated that he met the academic requirements. He subsequently accepted the outcome with humility and gratitude, bringing his campaign to an end.

His exit generated mixed reactions among students and supporters, with some expressing disappointment over the development. Some students indicated that they would not participate in the presidential vote, while others suggested they would vote against the remaining ticket.

Despite the reactions, voting proceeded on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng becoming the sole presidential ticket.

The pair ultimately secured a clear majority of the votes, receiving 11,165 YES votes (75.6%), while the remaining votes were accounted for through the applicable voting options.

The election also produced new officers across other UGSRC portfolios. Lordy Afia Amankwah Mireku was elected UGSRC Secretary with 8,763 votes (59.3%), while Kweku Danso Ephraim was elected Treasurer after an unopposed contest, securing 13,669 YES votes (92.5%).

The election brings to a close a closely watched UGSRC presidential race that was marked by an initial two-ticket contest, the subsequent exit of one ticket and significant student reactions before voting.

Abraham Kofi Amudzegbe and Evander Nana Agyenim-Boateng will now lead the incoming UGSRC administration for the 2026/2027 academic year.
