Accra College of Education Student Wins YIPS Ghana Writing Competition

Kentera Abongo Justice Jnr., a student of Accra College of Education, has emerged as the overall winner of the Youth Insurance Professionals (YIPS) Ghana Writing Competition after competing against more than 40 entries from tertiary institutions across Ghana.

The competition, organised by YIPS Ghana, the youth arm of the African Insurance Organisation, brought together students from different tertiary institutions to showcase their writing, research and critical-thinking abilities.

Following a rigorous shortlisting and evaluation process, Kentera advanced to the final five as the only participant from a College of Education. He went on to emerge as the overall winner at the grand finale held at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The competition formed part of the YIPS Ghana awards, which brought together young talents and stakeholders within Ghana’s insurance and financial services sector.

The event was supported by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) and was held under the theme, “Professionalism Rooted in Integrity: Building a Trusted Insurance Future.”

The theme highlighted the importance of integrity, competence and professionalism in building a trusted and sustainable insurance industry.

Kentera’s achievement marks a notable accomplishment for Accra College of Education, demonstrating that students from Colleges of Education can compete successfully with their counterparts from traditional universities in areas beyond teacher education.

His performance also highlights the potential of College of Education students in research, writing, critical thinking and other fields, while showing the value of opportunities that allow students to develop skills beyond their core programmes.

Accra College of Education has described the achievement as a reflection of the potential within its student body and its commitment to creating opportunities for students to discover and develop their talents.

Kentera’s victory adds to a growing number of student achievements across Ghana’s tertiary community and underscores the importance of creating platforms where young people can demonstrate their abilities beyond the classroom.
