UENR Student Makes History with Double Gold Win at International Skills Championship in Russia

A Level 200 Computer Science student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Miss Benewaa Kusi, has made Ghana proud after winning two gold medals at the 2026 Final Professional Skills Championship held in Russia.

Representing UENR and Ghana, Benewaa competed in the Cyberimmune Autonomy Tournament, a specialised category that combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and embedded systems. Her remarkable performance earned her gold medals in both the International Category and the Team Category, emerging victorious among participants from countries including China, Russia and Yemen.

The competition brought together talented young professionals from across the world to demonstrate practical skills in emerging technologies such as robotics, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, software engineering, artificial intelligence and smart technologies.

Speaking about her experience, Benewaa explained that her project focused on Cyber Immune Autonomy, which involves enabling robots to independently perform assigned tasks without direct human control. She acknowledged the challenges of the competition but attributed her success to hard work, determination and support from her mentors and the University.

The Department of Computer Science and Informatics at UENR praised her achievement, describing it as a proud moment for the University and Ghana. University officials encouraged students to embrace innovation, professionalism and continuous learning to compete effectively in the global technology space.

Benewaa’s achievement highlights the growing impact of Ghanaian students in global technology competitions and serves as an inspiration for young people pursuing careers in computing and innovation.
