Seth Acheampong Wins USTED SRC Presidential Election After Runoff

Seth Acheampong, popularly known as Sir Scandy, has been elected President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The closely contested election went into a runoff after no candidate secured the required 50% plus one of valid votes in the general election held on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.

Four candidates contested the SRC presidential position in the first round, with Seth Acheampong emerging as the leading candidate with 49.40975% of the votes. Jackqueline Dwamena, popularly known as Jackie Brown, followed with 30.12831%, while Gideon Danso and Osahene Adjei Ebenezer recorded 10.96664% and 9.49530% respectively.

Despite securing the highest percentage in the first round, Acheampong fell short of the Electoral Commission’s required threshold of 50% plus one, triggering a runoff between the two leading candidates.

The runoff was subsequently held on Thursday, 30 July 2026, with students returning to the polls to decide between Acheampong and Dwamena.

The second round produced a more decisive result, with Seth Acheampong securing 62.92287% of the valid votes, while Jackqueline Dwamena obtained 37.07713%.

Under the Electoral Commission’s runoff rules, the candidate who obtains the highest number of valid votes is declared the winner. Acheampong’s performance therefore secured him the mandate to lead the USTED SRC for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The election also generated significant discussions among students throughout the process. One of the issues that attracted attention involved reports that Jackqueline Dwamena and her running mate, Jill, had brought students from hostels to participate in the voting process. Some of the students were reportedly not allowed to vote, leading to discussions and allegations on campus.

However, the exact reason for the restriction was not officially established, with different explanations circulating among students. No official conclusion confirming the allegations has been publicly communicated by the Electoral Commission.

Dwamena’s campaign also attracted attention because she was the only female presidential aspirant in the contest. Her candidacy generated discussions about female representation and the possibility of a woman leading the SRC, while others maintained that the election should primarily be determined by candidates’ policies, competence, leadership experience and vision.

After two rounds of voting, the long-running presidential contest has now produced a clear winner.

The outcome brings an end to a highly competitive USTED SRC presidential election that featured four candidates in the first round, followed by a decisive two-way runoff.

The election has also left students with expectations for a new administration focused on student welfare, representation and campus development.
