Nana Aba Anamoah’s Advice on Leaving Ghana Sparks Debate on X

Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has sparked a heated conversation on X after urging Ghanaians to take advantage of legal opportunities to leave the country and work abroad.

“If you get the chance to leave this country legally, take it. Don’t look back!” she posted on July 30, 2026.

Her comment has resonated with a growing number of young Ghanaians who see migration as a possible route to better economic opportunities. What was once discussed quietly among friends is increasingly becoming a reality, with more young people exploring legal pathways to study and work overseas.

According to Afrobarometer, 72% of Ghanaians aged 18 to 35 have considered emigrating. Economic concerns, particularly limited employment opportunities, remain a major factor behind the desire to leave. Many graduates spend years searching for jobs that match their qualifications, while others settle for low-paying or unstable work.

Rising living costs and low salaries have further intensified the pressure. For some young people, the prospect of earning more abroad offers not only greater financial stability but also the opportunity to support families back home.

Beyond employment, frustrations over infrastructure, electricity and access to quality healthcare have also contributed to the growing interest in migration.

However, the debate is not one-sided. While some X users encouraged young people to take legal opportunities abroad, others questioned who would remain to build Ghana if its youth continued to leave. Some called for better leadership, stronger institutions and improved economic opportunities instead.

The discussion has therefore moved beyond Nana Aba’s statement, touching on a broader question about migration, patriotism, economic opportunity and the future of Ghana’s youth.

For many, leaving legally is no longer viewed as abandoning home, but as a practical decision in search of a better future.
