University of Ghana Tightens Rules on Photography and Video Recording on Campus

The University of Ghana has announced stricter guidelines on photography and videography on campus, requiring prior approval from the Public Affairs Directorate before content related to the University is produced or published.

According to the University's Director of Public Affairs, the move is intended to protect the institution's image following incidents where videos and films recorded on campus created misleading impressions about the University and its students.

He explained that while photography for occasions such as weddings and birthdays may be permitted upon approval, video productions have been restricted, with permission currently granted mainly for academic purposes. Individuals wishing to undertake photography or videography on campus are required to formally apply for approval before filming or taking photographs.

The University also expressed concern over social media content that it says misrepresents activities on campus and negatively affects its reputation. It warned that security personnel may intervene where content is produced without the necessary authorization.

The new directive forms part of the University's efforts to regulate the use of its facilities for content creation while safeguarding its public image.
