Ministry of Health Denies Reports of Ebola Outbreak in Ghana

The Ministry of Health has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths, describing the information as misleading and urging the public to disregard it.

In a statement, the Ministry said it had taken notice of a publication attributed to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) alleging a major Ebola outbreak in Ghana. However, the Ministry stated that the country has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The figures being circulated are false, misleading, and should be disregarded,” the statement said.

The Ministry explained that recent visits by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities were part of routine public health preparedness measures and were not linked to any Ebola outbreak.

It added that the inspections were aimed at strengthening Ghana’s ability to prevent and respond to possible public health emergencies.

The Ministry has therefore advised the public to rely on information from official sources, including the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, and avoid sharing unverified reports that could create unnecessary fear and panic.
