The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
A total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the examination, comprising 304,415 males and 315,828 females. The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres across the country, with 3,601 candidates recorded as absent.
WAEC said the results will be dispatched to the respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to access their results online can also do so through the Council’s official website.
Results affected by examination irregularities
WAEC also disclosed that some candidates’ results have been cancelled or withheld following investigations into irregularities recorded during the examination and marking of scripts.
The Council said the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the 2026 BECE approved the cancellation of subject results for 496 candidates and the cancellation of the entire results of 105 candidates.
Subject results for 119 candidates have also been withheld, while the entire results of 48 candidates have been withheld.
In addition, WAEC said the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny.
According to the Council, these results may either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of investigations, which are expected to be completed by August 31, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit WAEC’s irregularity and investigations platform to check the reason for the action and obtain information on the next steps.
The 2026 BECE results are currently provisional, pending the completion of the processes relating to withheld results and other examination irregularities.
