KsTU, British Council & Northern Regional College Inspire Young Girls Through STEM Outreach
The British Council, in collaboration with Northern Regional College (Northern Ireland) and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), organized a STEM outreach programme under the Engineering for Girls initiative, targeting schools in Kumasi to promote gender inclusivity in engineering.
Led by KsTU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Ing. Prof. Mrs. Abena Agyeiwaa Obiri-Yeboah, the outreach aimed to inspire young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), challenge gender stereotypes, and highlight the societal impact of engineering.
Interactive sessions introduced students to various engineering fields, emphasized the importance of science and math, and featured personal career stories from the visiting delegation. The response from students was enthusiastic, with strong interest shown in STEM careers.
As a result, plans are in motion to establish Engineering for Girls Clubs in participating schools to provide mentorship, hands-on experience, and continuous support for girls exploring engineering and STEM. The initiative supports the British Council’s mission to promote inclusive education and international collaboration.
