UDS Student Parliament Clinches Top Spot in 2025 Commonwealth Day Essay Contest
The University for Development Studies (UDS) Student Parliament has won the 2025 Commonwealth Day Essay Competition, solidifying the university’s reputation for academic excellence and civic engagement. Themed “The Future of Work and Innovation: How Are Automation and Digital Transformation Reshaping Industries?”, the contest challenged participants to explore global work trends and youth preparedness. UDS, with a team from its Tamale and Nyankpala campuses, topped the competition with a well-researched and original essay, earning GHS 12,000. The University of Ghana and Islamic University placed second and third, winning GHS 10,000 and GHS 8,000 respectively. Other universities received GHS 2,000 consolation prizes. Held at the Parliament of Ghana and sponsored by the National Investment Bank (NIB), the event encouraged critical thinking and innovation among youth. UDS representatives expressed pride in their win and reaffirmed their commitment to using knowledge and advocacy to drive positive change locally and globally.
