UDS Students Empower Rural Communities Through Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP).
Second-year students from the University for Development Studies (UDS) are making a difference in rural Ghana through the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP). Deployed to communities in Ahafo, Bono, Northern, and other regions, they’re gaining hands-on experience and cultural awareness while addressing local challenges like healthcare and farming limitations.
Living with rural households for seven weeks, students collaborate on solutions, from proposing modern farming tools to literacy programs. The program, rooted in UDS’s mission under PNDC Law 279, fosters social responsibility. In 2023, 8,746 students participated, and this year’s #TTFPP24Diaries highlight their impact, with transect walks and community profiling sparking innovative ideas like shea butter factories.
Despite challenges like language barriers, students like Abdul Wahab in Anwiam are thriving, teaching and drafting development plans. UDS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan praised the program, announcing awards of GHC5,000 and GHC2,500 for top group and individual contributions. TTFPP not only builds skills but also bridges cultural gaps, shaping graduates who drive sustainable change.
