Revamping Ghana’s Ruminant Industry: Prof. Addah Weseh Delivers Powerful Inaugural Lecture at UDS
The University for Development Studies (UDS) held its 20th Inaugural Lecture, delivered by Prof. Addah Weseh, Director of DCROP and expert in Animal Science. Addressing a packed audience, Prof. Weseh spoke on the theme: “Appropriate Technologies in the Conservation and Utilization of Crop Residues”, highlighting Ghana’s overdependence on ruminant imports from the Sahel due to systemic weaknesses in its livestock sector. He showcased climate-smart solutions like improved silage and crop residue technologies and proposed reforms including infrastructure investment, policy clarity, and intensified production. He closed with five “Rules of Thumb” for revamping the industry, earning a standing ovation. The Vice-Chancellor called it a national wake-up call for food security and sustainable livestock practices.
