KNUST Partners with TC Energy to Build New Hostel, Tackling Student Accommodation Crisis
Kumasi, Ghana – July 1, 2025 – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TC Energy Limited to construct a new hostel facility on its Kumasi campus, as announced on X by @Thevokofficial and @tccknust on July 1, 2025. The initiative aims to address the growing accommodation challenges faced by students due to limited on-campus housing.
With approximately 74% of KNUST students currently residing in off-campus private hostels, which range from GH₵2,500–10,200 annually, the new facility will provide modern, affordable living spaces. The project, supported by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor David Asamoah and TC Energy’s CEO Dr. Anthony Opoku, aligns with KNUST’s efforts to improve infrastructure through public-private partnerships. This follows a 2022 policy reserving on-campus halls for first-year students and the ongoing construction of a seven-storey hostel funded by internal resources.
The KNUST-TC Energy hostel is expected to ease the strain on existing facilities and enhance the student experience. Details on capacity and completion timelines are forthcoming. For updates, contact KNUST’s Dean of Students Office or follow official university channels.
