Prof. Bello Calls for Improved Workplace Conditions, Highlights Role of Physiotherapy in National Health
Prof. Ajediran Idowu Bello, the University of Ghana’s first Professor of Physiotherapy, has called for urgent national reforms to improve workplace ergonomics. In his inaugural lecture on June 27, 2025, he warned that poorly designed office furniture is causing a surge in musculoskeletal issues like back pain and poor posture among workers.
He described these conditions as a “silent epidemic” and urged institutions to adopt ergonomic standards, conduct regular health assessments, and include physiotherapy in staff wellness programs. Prof. Bello emphasized that physiotherapy is not just for injury recovery but a key to maintaining a healthy, productive workforce.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo praised his decades of research and his contribution to physiotherapy in Ghana and beyond. The lecture ended with tributes from the university and health community celebrating his impact.
