School of Information and Communication Studies Hosts Second African Digital Humanities Symposium, Spotlighting AI, Libraries and Digital Preservation
The University of Ghana’s School of Information and Communication Studies, in partnership with the University of Kansas, hosted the second African Digital Humanities Symposium from June 5–6, 2025. Under the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Libraries and Digital Preservation in Africa,” the event gathered scholars, librarians, and researchers to explore the impact of AI and digital tools on African knowledge systems.
Keynotes from scholars like Prof. Ademide Adelusi-Adeluyi and Dr. Karen Ijumba showcased how digital humanities aid in historical recovery and restitution. Panel discussions featured digitization efforts in Ghana and Nigeria, participatory archives, and debates on data justice, AI ethics, and colonial legacies in tech. The symposium concluded with a call for African-led digital innovation rooted in local realities and collaboration.
