UEW Empowers Female and Special Needs Students Through Digital Initiatives
The Department of Special Education (SPED) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in collaboration with Azubi Tech Inclusion, has organised a transformative seminar. The seminar aims to equip students with essential skills.
The focus is on female students and students with disability, providing them with digital skills for improved career outcomes and inclusion in Ghana's technology ecosystem.
The seminar, chaired by Prof. John Oyundoyin, brought together over 70 students from the Department. The event addressed the digital divide faced by marginalised groups and sought to advocate for greater inclusion of women and persons with disability in the tech industry.
Facilitated by Mr. Sampson Dzivor, Human Resource Inclusion Officer at Azubi Tech Inclusion and an alumnus of the Department, the session highlighted the urgent need for students to embrace technological skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving job market. Mr. Dzivor emphasised the structural challenges that often limit access to employment for persons with disability and women, and how digital literacy serves as a powerful tool to bridge that gap.
"Tech skills are not just optional anymore; they are essential for survival in today’s workplace, especially for marginalised communities," Mr. Dzivor noted. He also urged policymakers to champion inclusive employment initiatives and create enabling environments for equal participation in the digital economy.
The seminar encouraged students to explore tech not only as a career path but also as a means of driving social impact. Participants were inspired to become advocates for change, leveraging digital tools to challenge systemic inequalities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Department expressed its appreciation to Azubi Africa for its continued support and commitment to inclusive digital empowerment. The event aligns with UEW’s broader mission to promote equity and access in education and workforce readiness, especially for underserved populations.
