Prof. Ruby Hanson with Partners Awarded European Grant for Teacher Education in Africa
Prof. Ruby Hanson of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and partners have secured a prestigious international grant under the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA), funded by the European Commission’s Global Gateway and managed by EDUFI. Their project, one of only six selected from 94 proposals, will focus on implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve teacher support, retention, and development across Sub-Saharan Africa. The 18-month initiative, with funding between €410,000 and €880,000, will involve institutions from Ghana, South Africa, Botswana, and the UK. Led in Ghana by Prof. Hanson and Dr. Bawa Mbage, in collaboration with UCL’s Dr. Sean Higgins, the project aims to inform national education policies and position African educators as leaders in innovation.
