UEW, Effutu Traditional Council Mourn Prof. Amedeker
On June 12, 2025, the Effutu Traditional Council, led by Neenyi Obor Kwesi Atta, visited the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to express condolences over the tragic death of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker. The delegation, represented by Mr. Ebo Ghartey, pledged traditional support and urged vigilance in light of rising violent crimes in Winneba.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual praised Prof. Amedeker as a principled academic and personal mentor, revealing that investigations led by the CID are ongoing with substantial leads. He highlighted security as a top priority, citing measures such as CCTV installations, police patrols, and infrastructure upgrades, while also acknowledging challenges like funding constraints.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu echoed the sorrow felt by the university community and emphasized the need to prevent future tragedies. The incident has prompted UEW to reaffirm its commitment to security and community collaboration in honor of Prof. Amedeker’s legacy.
