UPSA launches Faculty-Authored Textbook project and Academic Journals
The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has launched a Faculty-Authored Textbook Project and new faculty-based academic journals to promote the use of locally relevant learning materials and reduce reliance on foreign textbooks.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor emphasized the goal of creating course-specific materials featuring Ghanaian business case studies, enabling students to connect theory with real-world local experiences.

Dr. Eric Boachie Yiadom described the project as central to UPSA’s Academic Innovation Policy, aimed at improving access to affordable educational content and fostering faculty authorship.

As part of the initiative, four academic journals were introduced, including journals in communication, management, IT, and finance, to reflect Ghanaian and African realities in research.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel Antwi said the journals would serve as platforms for disseminating peer-reviewed scholarly work. The initiative was widely praised as a transformative step toward academic self-reliance and contextualized education.
