SACOST-UEW Partners Winneba Fishers to Combat Marine Plastic Pollution
The Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST) at UEW marked World Environment Day 2025 with a community outreach at Winneba Main Landing Beach, focusing on plastic pollution among fisherfolk. In partnership with Shape Attitude Ghana and others, the event included expert presentations on the environmental, health, and socioeconomic impacts of marine plastic pollution. Speakers like Dr. Ethel Addae, Mr. Wonderful Ghartey, and UEW lecturers highlighted the need for behavioral change, civic responsibility, and sustainable waste management. Fisherfolk shared personal challenges and proposed solutions, emphasizing the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The programme reinforced UEW’s commitment to environmental education and community-based action.
