Institute of Directors urges ethical leadership for Ghana’s ESG future
Dr. Alfred Mahamadu Braimah, CEO of the Institute of Directors-Ghana, has urged Ghana’s public and private institutions to adopt ethical leadership and sustainable governance to enhance their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance.
Speaking at a public lecture at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on May 8, 2025, themed “Sustainable Governance and Ethical Leadership: Implications for ESG”, Dr. Braimah emphasized: • Ethical leadership is vital for long-term value creation and organizational sustainability. • Institutions should: • Set the tone from the top, • Establish ESG committees and leadership teams, • Integrate ESG KPIs into performance reviews, • Conduct regular ESG reporting and internal training.
He praised UPSA’s advanced leadership and governance programmes, such as the MPhil and MSc in Leadership and MBA in Corporate Governance, positioning the university as a governance education leader in Ghana.
Dr. Braimah concluded by calling for collective action across sectors to ensure sustainable development.
Dr. Ernest Mensah Abraham, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, reaffirmed UPSA’s commitment to promoting responsible and ethical leadership aligned with national and continental development goals.
