As the KNUST SRC elections draw near, candidate Reginald Jojo Gwira and his campaign team have come forward to address a series of personal attacks and smear campaigns targeting their candidate. The campaign revealed that these attacks, including the circulation of an ambiguous private video and false endorsements, are attempts to undermine Jojo’s credibility and distract the student body.
The campaign team highlighted that the video lacks clear identities and is being used maliciously to defame Jojo’s character. Additionally, there have been unfounded claims linking Jojo to Nana Agradaa, with banners posted across campus falsely stating he is her nephew , claims the team has firmly denied as bizarre and unfathomable.
This is not the first time such tactics have been employed; Elijah Dery, spokesperson for Jojo’s campaign, has also been a target of baseless personal attacks. These actions contravene the university’s electoral guidelines and Ghana’s broader electoral laws that protect candidates from smear campaigns and ensure fair play during elections.
The campaign team has urged all students to exercise patience, remain calm, and make their choices based on facts and good judgment rather than rumors or propaganda. They reaffirm their commitment to conducting a transparent, issue-focused campaign under the Ray of Hope movement, calling on supporters to stay united and focused on positive change for KNUST.
As election day approaches, the importance of integrity, respect, and adherence to electoral rules remains paramount to uphold the democratic spirit within the university community.
