GES Cautions Officials as 2025 WASSCE Begins with Over 461,000 Candidates Nationwide
The 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has officially begun across Ghana, with a total of 461,640 candidates expected to sit for the exams. This includes 207,381 males and 254,259 females, all preparing to write an average of eight subjects each. In total, 65 different subjects will be examined during this period. The exams are being conducted in approximately 701 centres spread throughout the country.
As the exams commence, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to all supervisors and invigilators. Speaking to the press, the Acting Director General of GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, stated that anyone caught engaging in examination malpractice will be dismissed from duty. He added that the GES Council has been fully empowered to take such disciplinary actions swiftly.
Professor Davis urged all examination officials to uphold high standards of integrity and conduct, stressing the importance of protecting the credibility of the national exams. He further encouraged candidates to focus on their papers and avoid any form of malpractice, as measures have been put in place to detect and punish offenders.
This year’s WASSCE is being closely monitored, and authorities are calling for a collaborative effort from schools, staff, and candidates to ensure a smooth and fair process.
