MultiChoice Responds to Minister’s Concerns Over DStv Pricing in Ghana
MultiChoice Ghana has issued a formal response following recent comments by the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, regarding DStv subscription fees in Ghana.
In a statement released on August 3, 2025, MultiChoice expressed regret over the Minister’s stance, noting that it came despite the company’s ongoing efforts to engage with the government openly and in good faith. To address the issue, MultiChoice says it has submitted a proposal to both the Minister and the National Communications Authority (NCA) outlining an alternative avenue for engagement.
The company emphasized its longstanding presence in Ghana, having operated for over 30 years. It highlighted its commitment to local employees, dealers, retailers, and subscribers, and acknowledged the potential impact that a pricing dispute could have on livelihoods.
MultiChoice stressed that while it strives to keep subscription fees affordable, it must balance this with the realities of a challenging economic environment. It reiterated that any pricing decisions are made without compromising service quality or customer options.
Addressing recent calls to lower fees in light of the cedi’s appreciation, MultiChoice stated that such a move would be unsustainable and not aligned with sound business principles.
The company reaffirmed its willingness to work constructively with the Minister and relevant authorities, while continuing to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in Ghana.
