The President-Elect of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Bright Gyan, has assured students that the incoming SRC is engaging University Management over concerns surrounding the 2026/2027 academic calendar.
In a statement dated August 11, 2026, Gyan acknowledged concerns raised by students following the release of the academic calendar, particularly the scheduled commencement of the next semester on September 19, 2026.
According to him, the relatively tight timeline has raised concerns among students regarding internships, national service preparations, project deadlines and other personal commitments.
Gyan said the SRC had begun engaging the appropriate offices of the University to present students’ concerns and seek clarity and, where possible, flexibility regarding the academic schedule.
He explained that the Council is also gathering specific concerns from faculties and departments to better understand the challenges students may face under the new calendar.
The President-Elect assured students that the SRC would continue engaging Management and work within its mandate to protect and represent students’ interests.
While the engagements continue, Gyan encouraged students to remain calm and begin preparations towards resumption on September 19.
He assured students that any developments arising from the discussions with Management would be communicated promptly through the SRC’s official platforms.
Gyan reaffirmed that student welfare remains a priority for the incoming Council and appealed to students to remain patient and trust the SRC as it works to address their concerns.
