UG clarifies 2022/2023 AUCC students ‘shall be eligible’ for certificates under University of Ghana affiliation arrangement

Level 400 students of the 2022/2023 admission cohort of the African University of Communication and Business (AUCB), formerly the African University College of Communications (AUCC), have reaffirmed their demand for University of Ghana (UG) certificates following a response from the University on their petition.

The students’ concerns centre on the certification of those admitted during the period when AUCC operated under an affiliation arrangement with the University of Ghana.

In a letter signed by UG Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Gordon A. Awandare, the University stated that students admitted under the affiliation arrangement remain governed by its terms and conditions for the duration of their programmes.

UG further stated that students admitted in the 2022/2023 academic year who fulfil the required academic conditions “shall be eligible for the award of certificates issued under the seal of the University of Ghana.”

The affected students say the statement strengthens their position that they should receive UG certificates after completing their programmes.

They argue that their demand is not simply about the name printed on their certificates but about the academic expectations and rights attached to the conditions under which they were admitted.

The students have also disputed remarks they attribute to AUCB Vice-Chancellor Professor Isaac Abeku Blankson during a meeting with affected students on May 22, 2026. They claim he suggested that obtaining UG certificates could take several years and encouraged them to accept AUCB degrees.

The students have rejected this position, maintaining that administrative challenges should not override the commitments associated with their admission under the UG affiliation arrangement.

They have urged affected students to remain calm and united as they await further communication from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) following their petition.

The students have also cautioned against misinformation, insisting that the matter is being pursued through the appropriate channels.

They say they will continue engaging relevant stakeholders and update affected students as further developments emerge.
