Jude Michelle Korleh Nortey Elected 66th KNUST SRC President

Jude Michelle Korleh Nortey has been elected the 66th President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the 2026/2027 academic year, becoming only the second woman in the University’s history to hold the position, following Yvonne Osei Adobea’s tenure as the first female SRC President.

Nortey secured a decisive victory in the SRC presidential election, polling 10,435 votes, representing 56.71% of valid votes cast. She emerged ahead of seven other presidential candidates to become the next leader of the student body.

She follows Yvonne Osei Adobea, who made history as the first female SRC President of KNUST. Nortey’s election therefore marks another significant milestone for female representation in student leadership at the University.

Kelvin Obeng Fosu placed second with 4,024 votes (21.87%), while Forstell Ehun followed with 1,981 votes (10.77%). Nana Yaw Boateng Agyekum polled 1,172 votes (6.37%), with Modicious Oye Tunde, Ian Osam Gyan, Joseph Boahen Akomeah, Benjamin Selasie Osei and Yakubu Wunpini Abdulai recording 275, 155, 110, 81 and 60 votes respectively.

The election also produced winners for other executive positions. Stephanie Akosua Asiedu was elected General Secretary with 8,087 votes (43.95%), defeating Anita Ofori Antwi and Phyllis Boakyewaa Osafo.

Kwabena Nantwi-Gyebour won the Financial Secretary position with 10,754 votes (58.45%), while Rebecca Awinbila emerged as Women’s Commissioner after securing 2,637 votes (29.65%).

The Electoral Commission reported strong participation in the election, with 18,514 students verified to vote and 18,400 ballots cast, representing a turnout of more than 99% among verified voters. Of those who voted, 8,895 were women, while 114 verified students did not cast their ballots.

Nortey will now lead the KNUST SRC for the 2026/2027 academic year, with her election placing her name alongside Yvonne Osei Adobea as one of the women who have broken new ground in the history of student leadership at KNUST.
