A tragic incident in Salaga in the Savannah Region has claimed the life of a young man during activities marking this year’s Fire Festival celebrations, after he reportedly stabbed himself while attempting to demonstrate what he believed were spiritual or extraordinary powers.
The deceased, identified as Sheihu and believed to be in his early twenties, sustained critical injuries after performing the act in front of a crowd of spectators on June 24, 2026.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred during a community-organised event as part of the annual festival, where the young man allegedly attempted a dangerous display that was perceived by some onlookers as an attempt to show supernatural abilities.
The situation turned tragic when he inflicted a self-stab wound, leading to severe bleeding and panic among spectators, who rushed to assist before he was transported to the Salaga Government Hospital.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he was later pronounced dead.
