NACOC Arrests Five Central University Students Over Alleged Cannabis-Infused Products; SRC Week Suspended

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested five students of Central University during a targeted operation on campus over their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products.

The suspects, comprising Level 100, Level 300, and Level 400 students, were picked up following intelligence-led investigations into reported illicit drug activities within the university community.

According to preliminary findings, the students were allegedly engaged in the production and sale of cannabis-infused food and drinks, including ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper, and eggs, in addition to dealing in raw cannabis. NACOC officials say quantities of suspected substances were retrieved and have been seized for forensic examination as investigations continue.

The Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug-related activities within educational institutions, warning students against involvement in narcotics trafficking and consumption. The arrested students are expected to assist investigators as authorities work to determine the full scope of the alleged operation and identify any other individuals involved.

In response to the incident, Central University confirmed that it is engaging NACOC and other relevant authorities to verify the facts surrounding the case and has urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing.

As a precautionary measure, the University has suspended all remaining SRC Week activities pending a full review of the incident and existing event management protocols.
