A teacher at Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing him physically confronting a female student on campus.

The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed that the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has commenced investigations into the incident and is expected to submit a full report to the GES headquarters.

The video, which has sparked widespread public outrage and concern, appears to show the teacher repeatedly assaulting the student during an altercation witnessed by other students. In the footage, the teacher is seen punching the student and, at one point, lifting her and throwing her to the ground.

According to reports circulating on social media, the confrontation allegedly stemmed from an issue involving unpaid hostel fees. The teacher, who is said to serve as the hostel caretaker, was reportedly demanding payment of outstanding fees when tensions escalated into a physical struggle.

Eyewitnesses in the video could be heard pleading with the teacher to stop the assault.

“Sir, please, we beg it’s okay, she is a female.”

Responding to the appeals, the visibly agitated teacher reportedly asked:

“Is she aware she is a lady?”

Another student, expressing frustration over the recurring confrontations, was heard saying:

“Sir, remove all the form three students from the room instead of fighting us every day.”

While the exact circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation, the case has reignited conversations about student safety, discipline, and the appropriate handling of disputes within educational institutions.

The Ghana Education Service has assured the public that the matter is being investigated thoroughly. The outcome of the investigations is expected to determine any disciplinary measures or legal action that may follow.

The incident has also prompted renewed calls from the public for accountability and stronger safeguards to protect students from abuse in schools.
