The Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana at the University of Health and Allied Sciences has officially launched a Graduate Research Fund aimed at supporting postgraduate research and strengthening Ghana’s research ecosystem.
The initiative was unveiled during a ceremony held at the UHAS School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences Auditorium under the theme, “Resetting the Research Landscape for National Development: The Role of GRASAG-UHAS.”
Speaking at the event, UHAS Vice-Chancellor Lydia Aziato commended the initiative and stressed the importance of ensuring that funded research leads to impactful publications and practical solutions for national development. She also pledged an annual contribution of GH¢20,000 from the university to support the fund.
Foundation Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, Fred Newton Binka, highlighted the need for greater investment in research and innovation, urging government, industry and academic institutions to work together to build a sustainable research culture in Ghana.
According to GRASAG-UHAS President Adam Abdul Fatau, successful applicants will initially receive grants of up to GH¢5,000 to support their research projects.
The launch also received support from stakeholders, including Ho West MP Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, who donated GH¢5,000 toward the initiative.
The Graduate Research Fund is expected to provide financial support for graduate students while promoting research, innovation and evidence-based solutions to national challenges.
