President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of an interconnecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3 at Kotoka International Airport as part of efforts to expand airport infrastructure and reduce congestion.

The project is expected to improve passenger movement and reinforce Ghana’s ambition of becoming a key aviation hub in West Africa.

Addressing guests at the ceremony, President Mahama said the development is a strategic investment focused on efficiency, better passenger experience, and national economic growth.

He noted that passenger numbers have risen from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, reflecting increasing travel demand and Ghana’s growing importance in regional air transport.

The President said the increase in traffic has created operational pressure, especially during peak hours, making expansion works necessary.

When completed, the new concourse will feature boarding bridges, modern waiting lounges, VIP facilities, retail spaces, and upgraded support services linking the two terminals.

The project is expected to enhance operations at Ghana’s main international airport while improving convenience for domestic and international travellers.
