GTEC Publishes List of 62 Unrecognised Tertiary Institutions in Ghana
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has released a list of sixty-two tertiary institutions currently operating without official recognition in the country.

In a public notice issued on Friday, April 17, 2026, the Commission stated that the institutions are not recognised due to various quality assurance concerns.

GTEC warned the general public to exercise caution when dealing with the listed institutions, especially regarding certificates, diplomas, and other academic qualifications issued by them.

According to the Commission, the move forms part of efforts to protect students, parents, employers, and the wider public from enrolling in or accepting qualifications from institutions that do not meet the required regulatory standards.

The list includes institutions in Ghana as well as several foreign-based universities and colleges operating or offering programmes without recognition in the country.

Among the Ghana-based institutions named were Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Faith University Seminary, Doxa Open University, Quest International University, Kingdom Living Bible Institute in Kumasi, and Global Professional College in Effiduase.

Several international institutions from countries including the United States, India, Mexico, Switzerland, Liberia, Zambia, France, and Barbados were also cited in the notice.

GTEC advised prospective students and the public to verify the accreditation status of institutions before applying for admission or accepting qualifications.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining quality assurance and protecting the integrity of tertiary education in Ghana.
