A tragic incident has claimed the life of a Ghana Premier League player after an armed robbery attack targeted the Berekum Chelsea team bus on the Bibiani–Goaso road on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The deceased, 20-year-old forward Dominic Frimpong, was on loan at Berekum Chelsea from Aduana Football Club since January 2026. He reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the head during the violent attack.
The team was returning from their Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex 1996 at DUN’s Park in Samreboi, a match they lost. Reports indicate that armed robbers blocked the team bus, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes in a bid to escape the attack. Several members of the squad are also said to have sustained injuries during the chaos.
Frimpong was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In a statement, Aduana Football Club expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating loss to both clubs and Ghana football as a whole. The club confirmed that Frimpong had been on loan at Berekum Chelsea and had shown promising form, scoring two goals in 13 league appearances.
Berekum Chelsea is yet to officially confirm the player’s death as investigations and emergency responses continue.
