Authorities at Nkenkenso Senior High School in the Ashanti Region have suspended a teacher, Akwesi Opoku, following allegations of serious misconduct involving students.
According to reports, Mr. Opoku was upset with three female students who allegedly spread false rumours about him. Instead of following official procedures to resolve the matter, he reportedly summoned the students and invoked deities, placing what was described as a curse on them for damaging his reputation.
The incident quickly drew attention within the school and beyond, prompting immediate intervention from school authorities. The affected students later apologised for their role in the situation and reportedly sought assistance from a traditional priestess to reverse the alleged curse. Each student was said to have paid GH₵1,000 for the process.
The school’s management condemned the teacher’s actions as “highly unprofessional” and warned that such behaviour could tarnish the reputation of the institution. In response, Mr. Opoku has been suspended from his duties as a teacher and Senior Housemaster while investigations continue.
This incident has sparked widespread debate among students, parents, and the community, with many questioning the use of traditional practices in school disciplinary matters. Some have called for stricter measures to ensure that professional conduct is maintained, while others stress the importance of resolving conflicts through established school procedures rather than unconventional means.
The school assures the public that it is taking the matter seriously and will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation.
