The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has confirmed the death of Mr. Godfred Akomaning, a final-year student pursuing a BSc in Petroleum Engineering.
The announcement was made in a press release dated Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Registrar and Head of the University Relations Office, Alfred Ohenenana Appiah. According to the statement, the student passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
Medical reports from the hospital indicate that the cause of death was organophosphate poisoning. The university noted that the deceased’s family has been officially informed, and his body has been deposited at the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital Mortuary.
Management of UENR expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community. The institution described the development as a tragic loss and assured that it shares in the grief of all affected.
The university further stated that investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. It assured the public that more information will be communicated once all facts have been established.
