The University of Health and Allied Sciences has reinforced its commitment to global academic collaboration by hosting a delegation from the University of Massachusetts Worcester Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing as part of a week-long exchange programme. The visit, which took place from March 6 to 13, 2026, was organised by the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) to provide visiting students with practical exposure to Ghana’s healthcare system while strengthening institutional partnerships.
During the programme, the visiting team engaged in a series of academic, clinical, and community-based activities. These included tours of training facilities, simulation exercises at the University’s Simulation Centre, and participation in clinical training sessions within the Ho Municipality. The exchange also incorporated cultural immersion activities, highlighted by a welcome performance from the University’s Cultural Troupe, offering the delegation a deeper appreciation of Ghanaian culture.
At a dinner meeting, Vice-Chancellor Lydia Aziato encouraged continued collaboration to advance the nursing profession, while team lead Akwesi Duah expressed satisfaction with the programme and pledged to sustain the partnership. Registrar Yaa Amankwaa Opuni emphasised the value of international exposure in enriching student learning, and SONAM Dean Peter Adatara called for expanded collaboration through student exchanges and joint academic initiatives.
Beyond academic engagement, the delegation extended its impact to the community by providing health education and services to residents of Adaklu Wumenu. The team also donated medical supplies to the local CHPS compound and to SONAM to support practical training for students.
The exchange programme marks a significant milestone in UHAS’ efforts to build strong international partnerships that enhance nursing education, promote cross-cultural learning, and contribute to improved healthcare delivery.
