A microlight aircraft crashed and burst into flames near a school park in Tema Community One on Monday afternoon, killing both occupants on board. The incident occurred at the Oninku Drive School Park at Site 17, close to the TMA Daycare facility, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and drawing an immediate response from emergency services.

In a statement, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the aircraft, with registration number 9G-ADV, was flying from Ho to Accra when it went down at approximately 14:18 Zulu time, just after 2 p.m. local time. According to the authority, the aircraft had estimated arrival in Accra at 15:20 Z, but the last radio contact with the pilot was recorded at 14:18 Z.

Authorities confirmed that two persons were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash, and both were killed in the incident. The crash site, located near a school park, raised concerns among residents and bystanders who witnessed the thick smoke rising from the area shortly after the aircraft went down.

Emergency responders quickly moved to the scene to contain the fire and secure the area. Aviation authorities are expected to begin investigations to determine the cause of the crash as efforts continue to gather more details surrounding the tragic incident.
