An okada rider working around Agbogbloshie Market in Accra’s central business district has described the motorcycle transport business as a very profitable venture. According to him, the constant heavy traffic in Accra makes motorcycles one of the fastest and most convenient options for commuters trying to move around the city. Because of this, riders are able to get many customers throughout the day, especially during peak hours.
He explained that on good days, the earnings can be quite impressive, making the business attractive to many young people looking for work. However, he said the biggest challenge riders face is interference from police officers, who often confront them for operating without the required licenses. Despite these challenges, he believes the business still offers strong earning potential.
