About 47 Ghanaian health professionals have been deployed to Saint Kitts and Nevis under the government’s Health Workforce Migration Initiative, a programme aimed at providing structured overseas employment while ensuring that Ghana’s health system is not weakened by the arrangement.
The initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Health, forms part of a managed migration framework designed to allow health workers to take up fixed-term international assignments and return home after completing their service.
Under the programme, the professionals will work in Saint Kitts and Nevis on two to three-year contracts. Officials say the arrangement ensures participants gain international exposure and professional development opportunities before returning to Ghana to continue contributing to the local health sector.
Before their departure at the Accra International Airport, some of the health workers expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing it as a significant step in their careers. They said they are ready to represent Ghana well while delivering quality healthcare services abroad.
Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo and Deputy Minister of Health Grace Ayensu-Danquah were present to bid farewell to the team.
The Deputy Minister of Health reiterated government’s assurance that the professionals will return after completing their contracts. She added that the initiative offers improved working conditions, attractive remuneration, and professional growth opportunities.
She further described the programme as a mutually beneficial arrangement for both Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis, noting that it will enhance skills transfer and strengthen healthcare delivery systems in both countries.
