President John Dramani Mahama has reinforced diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and Belarus following high-level bilateral talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during his State Visit to Belarus.

The visit featured a private meeting between the two leaders, followed by discussions involving officials from both countries focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors of their economies.

A major outcome of the engagement was the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening economic and institutional collaboration. The agreements cover the establishment of a Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, enhanced collaboration between the chambers of commerce of both countries, and expanded cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The agreements were signed on Ghana’s behalf by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia Jehu Appiah, and Food and Agriculture Minister Eric Opoku.

Speaking at a joint press conference, President Mahama described the visit as a significant milestone in Ghana-Belarus relations and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to building stronger partnerships based on mutual respect, equality, and shared development goals.

He identified agriculture as a key area for collaboration, highlighting opportunities for mechanisation, technology transfer, research partnerships, and investment to support Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda. He also pointed to prospects for cooperation in education, renewable energy, trade, manufacturing, and industrial development.

According to the President, the newly signed agreements provide a framework for closer engagement between public institutions and private sector actors in both countries, creating opportunities for innovation, investment, and employment generation.

The visit is expected to open a new chapter in Ghana-Belarus relations, with both nations seeking to translate diplomatic engagement into practical initiatives that support economic growth and improve livelihoods.
