The Electoral Commission of the Ghana Engineering Students Association at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has referred matters relating to the eligibility and conduct of candidate Nana Kwame Oppong-Antwi to the Judicial Committee (JC) for determination.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, several petitions, complaints and concerns were received regarding the candidate’s participation in the ongoing GESA-KNUST Elections 2026.
Following a preliminary review, the Electoral Commission indicated that the issues raised involve constitutional and disciplinary questions that fall outside its administrative jurisdiction. As a result, the matter has been formally referred to the Judicial Committee for further examination.
The Judicial Committee has been tasked with assessing the validity of the petitions, determining whether any provisions of the GESA Constitution or electoral regulations were breached, and deciding on any constitutional consequences that may arise from its findings.
The Electoral Commission stated that it remains committed to due process and will comply fully with any ruling or directive issued by the Judicial Committee.
It further urged all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the constitutional process to take its course, stressing that the referral is intended to uphold fairness, justice and the integrity of the electoral process.
