President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has recruited 6,000 Arabic teachers to support Islamic education across the country while creating job opportunities for young Ghanaians.

Speaking at the National Eid al-Adha celebration at the Black Star Square in Accra, the President said the initiative forms part of government efforts to strengthen Islamic education and reduce youth unemployment.

He stated that all recruited Arabic teachers have already been fully paid, adding that government does not owe any arrears under the programme.

President Mahama also indicated that the programme will be expanded in the coming years to accommodate more Arabic teachers under the Youth Employment Agency initiative.

He commended the Chief Executive Officer of the YEA, Malik Basintale, and his team for the successful implementation of the recruitment process.

At the same event, the President also called on Ghanaians to protect the country’s peace and unity, urging citizens to reject extremism, intolerance and division.

He noted that Ghana continues to stand out as a model of peaceful coexistence among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds, and stressed the need to uphold values of tolerance, respect and mutual understanding.
