A group identified as the Concerned Newly Recruited Teachers under the Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed frustration over delays in the payment of outstanding salary arrears and warned of renewed protests if the issue remains unresolved.
According to a press statement issued by the group, the teachers said they were disappointed that no payments had been made despite earlier assurances and an approved payment arrangement.
The teachers referenced an official GES letter dated April 20, 2026, with reference number GES/DDG(MS)/1/26/212, which indicated that approval had been granted by the Ministry of Finance for the payment of salary arrears covering the period from August 2024 to November 2025.
The statement explained that the approved arrangement indicated payments would begin in May 2026, with four months of arrears expected to be paid alongside monthly salaries. However, the teachers stated that although salaries for the month had been processed, none of the promised arrears had been paid.
According to the group, the delays have left many newly recruited teachers facing financial difficulties, including loans, accommodation costs, transportation expenses and family obligations.
The teachers further questioned why similar commitments made to health workers appeared to have been implemented while teachers continue to await payment.
The group has therefore called on the government, the Ministry of Finance, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department and GES leadership to ensure all outstanding arrears are paid before the end of the month.
They warned that failure to meet the demand could lead to renewed picketing and other lawful actions to press for the release of the arrears.
