Prempeh College Demands Over GH¢1m Compensation Over Sofoline Interchange Land
Prempeh College has renewed efforts to recover GH¢1,053,230 owed by the Government of Ghana as compensation for land acquired for the construction of the Sofoline Interchange.

The issue was raised at a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) held in Kumasi on April 22, 2026, where school authorities appeared to respond to findings in the Auditor-General’s report.

Appearing before the Committee, Headmaster Very Rev. Louis Asare stated that the compensation, which was first promised in 2013, has still not been paid despite several years of follow-ups.

He explained that the school has written at least four official letters to key institutions involved in the project, including Value Properties, the project consultant, and the Department of Urban Roads, but has only received verbal assurances without any actual disbursement.

According to him, repeated efforts to retrieve the funds have not yielded results, affecting the school’s ability to undertake key development projects.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Kwame Amankrah, assured the Committee that the matter would be escalated to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, to help facilitate payment.

A member of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Frank Yeboah, also pressed for urgent action, urging authorities to ensure the school receives its due compensation.

The PAC is expected to follow up on the matter as pressure mounts for government to settle the long-standing debt.
