The President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Edward Nyamekye Benevolent, has delivered the State of SRC Address, outlining the council’s achievements, challenges, and future plans for the student body.
Addressing students during a parliamentary sitting, the SRC President described the current state of the council as “strong, active and progressive,” while acknowledging that it is not without its challenges. He emphasized that the SRC continues to make steady progress in advancing student welfare and development across campus.
Touching on student life and activities, he indicated that students should anticipate a bigger and more engaging SRC Week celebration in the next semester. He also called for unity and cooperation among students to sustain peace and support ongoing initiatives.
On transportation challenges, the President explained that keke drivers were temporarily restricted from entering campus following a misunderstanding with security personnel. He noted that the situation has since been resolved, with the SRC intervening by providing Aayalolo buses and other alternative transport arrangements to ensure smooth movement of students, particularly as examinations approach.
In the area of student welfare, the SRC highlighted its contribution to the implementation of the No Fees Stress policy, revealing that 75 percent of Level 100 students in Ho and 100 percent in Hohoe have been covered through the efforts of the Local NUGS.
The President also outlined long-term infrastructure goals, including plans to develop over 2,000-bed student accommodation to address housing challenges. Additionally, he disclosed that more than GHC 700,000 has been committed to the Hohoe SRC Canteen Project, a move expected to significantly improve the financial standing of the SRC while enhancing student services.
On financial management, he noted that the SRC successfully organized the Woezor Health Walk without drawing funds from the SRC coffers, describing it as a demonstration of prudent financial management by the council.
The address reaffirmed the SRC’s commitment to improving student welfare, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring sustainable development within the university community.
