14 UG Law Students Awarded Lebanese Community Scholarships
Fourteen students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana (UG) have been awarded scholarships by the Lebanese Community in Ghana for their outstanding performance in the 2025/2026 academic year. The recipients, who include six students from level 200, four from level 300, and four from level 400, will receive support from the Community until they are called to the bar.
The expansion in the number of beneficiaries reflects the Lebanese Community’s ongoing commitment to ease access to legal education, strengthen educational cooperation, and deepen cultural ties between Ghana and Lebanon. Over the past decade, the Community has supported law students at both UG and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), as well as students at the Ghana School of Law, Makola.
The award ceremony was attended by the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Joseph A. Yaro; Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Lebanon, Mr. Mohamad Baalbaky; the Dean of the Law School, Prof. Peter A. Atupare; members of the Lebanese Community; and senior staff and students. In his speech, Mr. Baalbaky emphasized the importance of the rule of law as the foundation of a stable democracy and urged the awardees to excel academically and professionally.
Prof. Yaro praised the Lebanese Community for its consistent support and collaboration over the years, while Prof. Atupare highlighted the scholarship’s role in alleviating financial burdens and promoting academic excellence. A representative of the Lebanese Community, Mr. Naaman Ashkar, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ghanaian students in their academic journey.
Since its inception in 2013, the award-winning Lebanese Community Scholarship has supported over 600 Ghanaian students across various disciplines, including law, journalism, public relations, film and television, and the performing arts.
