The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2026 WASSCE results for Private Candidates (First Series). The results show a mix of good performances and worrying trends in some core subjects.
A total of 23,410 candidates took the exams, including 9,980 males and 13,430 females, while 746 registered candidates did not appear. Social Studies recorded the highest success, with 8,131 candidates, or 75%, earning grades between A1 and C6. English Language followed, with 6,486 candidates, or 56%, achieving similar top grades.
Core Mathematics and Integrated Science recorded lower pass rates. Only 6,675 candidates, or 38%, passed Core Mathematics with grades A1 to C6, while just 3,679 candidates, or 28%, achieved the same in Integrated Science. The results also revealed significant numbers of lower grades and failures. In English Language, 14% scored D7, another 14% scored E8, and 16% failed with F9. Core Mathematics had 11% scoring D7, 12% scoring E8, and 39% failing with F9. Integrated Science showed 13% scoring D7, 18% scoring E8, and 40% failing. Social Studies performed comparatively better, with smaller percentages scoring D7, E8, and F9.
WAEC also reported cases of examination malpractice. The results of 76 subjects and 87 candidates have been withheld pending investigation, and affected candidates are advised to follow the council’s official procedures. The Council further cautioned the public against fraudsters claiming they can upgrade results, stressing that all results are secure and verifiable online. Candidates can now check their results via WAEC’s official portal.
